A Site lock password-protects your entire storefront. Anyone who visits your store sees a lock screen instead of your usual pages until they enter the correct password. Site locks are available on the Free plan (one active lock at a time) as well as every paid plan.

When to use a Site lock

  • You’re not ready to launch your store publicly yet, but want to share early access with a small group
  • Your store is between seasons and you want a “closed for now” message instead of taking it down entirely
  • You want a single password gate in front of everything, rather than locking individual products
Site locks do not block sales of products in Shop app or Google Shopping, if you want to modify your store while blocking sales, best to remove these sales channels from your products too. Also, google SEO is still active while your store is locked, so search results will still contain your products, but when clicked will see the site lock.

Creating a Site lock

Follow the steps in Creating Your First Lock and choose Site as the lock scope. A Site lock doesn’t need you to pick any products or collections — it applies to the whole store as soon as it’s saved.

What customers see

Visitors are shown Launch Day - Store locks’ lock screen with a password field. Once they enter the correct password, they can browse normally for as long as the lock’s access duration allows before being asked again.

Removing a Site lock

From the Dashboard, click Remove on the lock. Or open the lock and click Unlock from the edit view. Either way, this immediately restores normal access to your store. If you need to lock the store again later, open the lock and click Lock — it reactivates with the same password and settings, no need to recreate it.

What a Site lock does (and doesn’t) affect

A Site lock only gates your Online Store — the storefront itself, behind Launch Day - Store locks’ password screen.
  • Products are not removed from the Google & YouTube sales channel (Google Shopping listings/ads)
  • Products are not removed from the Shop app channel
  • Products & store are not hidden from regular Google search results
There are separate, per-product settings — see Hide from the Google & YouTube sales channel and Hide from Google search results — and they’re only available on Product and Collection locks, not Site locks. If you want a fully locked store to also stop showing up in Google Shopping, the Shop app, or Google search while it’s locked, you’ll need to lock the relevant products or collections individually with those settings turned on, in addition to (or instead of) a Site lock. OR You can use the Shopify built in password to your Shopify store in Online Store/Preferences - select Password Protection.
Note on product discoverability in the Shop app: There’s currently no way to remove products from the Shop app entirely — it automatically reads your Shopify store catalog and publishes everything in it. What you can control is the purchase method, via the Shop app sales channel: when it’s ON, customers can complete purchases directly within the Shop app; when it’s OFF, the listing instead links out to your Shopify store. This purchase-method toggle is where Launch Day - Store locks’ locks take effect.
